Pagan Worship Area at Air Force Academy

Saw in USA Today this morning (Feb 2) that the Air Force Academy is setting aside an area "for followers of Earth-centered religions -- Wiccans, Druids, witches, pagans -- on a hill overlooking the campus."

"the new area, featuring a circle of stone formed by inner and outer rings, will join other worship areas on campus for Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists"

Claustrophobia

I find it to be so hard sometimes to just be myself. I guess i just don't fit in with the southern crowd, Growing up was new orleans different then this place. Its such an lively place with such a great mix of people. I guess it spoiled me. I just have a hard time finding people who are as open-minded and as welcoming. I look forward to further opening my mind and learning more of the world..

Verity

two eyes to a world of beauty

life is a beating driving pulse
a flash of power
the spirit inside is named so many things
but no one wants to see its face
the crowds cower behind an interpreter
to tell them who they are
what their existence means
its sad and shallow
but so easy
the lines to be filled out by elders from birth
you will be this
and you will do that
to question is to be exiled
to be misunderstood
but i have two eyes watching a world of beauty
i have seen the spirit dance in my living body
i have seen the elements… Continue

Becoming Our Own Wise One

In more traditional cultures, the "wise one" is a central figure, advising all who seek answers. Today, this diverse role has been spread across a team of specialists: lawyers, doctors, public officials. Truth Quotes

Buddha:
Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it. Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held. Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books. Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin. Believe nothing just because someone else believes it. Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true. [paraphrased]

Demosthenes:
Nothing is easier than self-deceit. For what each man wishes, that he also believes to be true.

George Orwell:
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Gloria Steinem:
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

Heraklietos of Ephesos:
Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details.
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season.

Josh Billings:
As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand.

Marcus Aurelius:
If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it.

Mark Twain:
If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.

Mark Twain:
Every generalization is dangerous, especially this one.

Mark Twain:
In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing.
Autobiography, 1959

Noam Chomsky:
It is the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and expose lies.

Thomas Jefferson:
The day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus by the Supreme Being in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter.

Voltaire:
As long as people believe in absurdities, they will continue to commit atrocities.

William Sloane Coffin:
The world is too dangerous for anything but truth and too small for anything but love.
